Sciatica pain can be severe and debilitating. When the sciatic nerve is pinched or inflamed, the pain that you feel through the back of your legs and in your lower back can drive you insane whether you are standing, sitting, or even laying down. Comfort and relief always seem just beyond your reach. However, there are several methods you can use to try to manage and relieve your sciatica pain. All that's left for you to do is learn what these available methods are and give them a try as soon as possible. Pain relief with sciatica is possible if you know how to achieve it.

Cold Packs and Heating Pads

To immediately relieve your pain or discomfort at home, one of the simplest methods is to alternate hot and cold treatments on the affected area. While this will not necessarily cure your sciatica, it will temporarily reduce the pain you feel.

All you need to do is apply an ice pack to your lower back and/or legs for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then, you will want to wait for around two to three hours and apply the heating pad for 20 minutes. You can continue this process indefinitely, as long as you need relief.

Chiropractic Care

If you are looking for a solution that could be more permanent than applying cold and heat as needed, you may wish to pay a chiropractor, like Claremont Chiropractic, a visit. Chiropractic care focuses on correcting problems with the alignment of the spine.

When the spine is out of alignment, the nervous system, particularly the portion that runs along the spine, gets compromised. Nerves such as the sciatic nerve get pinched or otherwise impeded when the spine is not properly aligned, which could be a direct cause of your sciatica.

Chiropractic treatments work to correct such misalignments through a series of spinal manipulations and exercises. These movements can get the spinal column back into its rightful position relieving undue pressure from the nerves.

Get and Stay Active

Believe it or not, exercise is one of the best ways to combat sciatica and the pain associated with it. When you are in shape and exercising regularly, you naturally have good posture and strong muscles to protect your body from injury and ailments such as sciatica.

Yoga specifically, is an excellent exercise program to engage in. It combines flexibility and strength exercises with meditative breathing techniques to help you become more in tune with your body. The stretches can provide you with immediate sciatica pain relief and these exercises can, over time, even rid you of your sciatica completely.

So, make sure to get active and stay active to keep your body strong and healthy. And if you want to get the most sciatica benefit from your workout, give yoga a try.

If you give these sciatica pain relief methods a try, you could be feeling better in no time. So, make the choice to fight off the pain and get started right away.
