If you have an enlarged prostate, you need to see the doctor immediately because there could be a chance that it is cancer. However, the treatment for the cancer is not going to cause the tumor that enlarged your prostate to shrink immediately. There is going to be a period of time where you have to deal with the discomfort of having an enlarged prostate. Here are some tips for getting through that period with as little discomfort as possible.

1. Reduce Stress

One of the major problems that come with having an enlarged prostate is a weak stream of urine when you are going to the bathroom. This can be super frustrating, especially if the stream has gone down to a level of a dribble. Much of the lack of stream can be attributed to stress. If you have been diagnosed with cancer, you are likely going to feel stressed out. However, there's no need to force yourself to be more uncomfortable than you have to be. Keep exercising regularly in order to make sure that your brain is releasing chemicals that make you feel happy and relaxed. Practice meditation. Journal. Do whatever you need to do to stay calm and you will find that your stream of urine strengthens.

2. Spend More Time Going to the Bathroom

Build extra time to go to the bathroom into your day. You are going to take longer to totally empty your bladder due to your lower velocity and volume stream. However, by taking the time to empty your bladder completely, you will reduce the need for frequent return trips to the bathroom, saving you a lot more time overall. This will also allow you to go on with your day to day activities a lot more easily since you won't be constantly interrupted by the need to go to the bathroom.

3. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol

Finally, avoid any fluids that contain caffeine and alcohol because those will increase your need to go to the bathroom, which can increase your overall discomfort. By sticking to water, you can better regulate the amount that you are going to have to pee in the future, which will give you a better sense of control. Caffeine and alcohol take that control away from you.
